| dc.description | The present Edition of the Gujrat Gazetteer ought to have been written at the close of the Settlement in 1916, but it was not undertaken till I returned from leave at the beginning of 1918. My temporary deputation on military duty and the more urgent pre-occupations of my work as Deputy Commissioner prevented me from finishing it in that year. This revision is based on Captain Davies' .Edition of 1892-93. The contents have been re-arranged so as to conform with Financial Commissioners' circular No. 43, and statistics have been brought as nearly up to date as possible. The book suffers from having been a long time in preparation, especially because references to the year of compilation are not quite consistent, but in spite of its imperfections it is desirable to have. the new Edition issued. | en_US |
