| dc.description | IN response to a number of requests from teachers and lecturers who are making use of A Text Book of Modern European History, 1789-1930, two other volumes have been prepared, to cover, respectively, the periods 1453-1661 and 1643-1848. This volume, therefore, is one of a series which presents a general account of the history of Europe from the close of the Middle Ages to the present day. An effort has been made to avoid the inclusion of such an amount of detail as would obscure the broad view of European affairs; at the same time it is hoped that the narrative will be found sufficiently full to be interesting and intelligible. The general plan of the work is similar to that followed in other works by the same author. The sketch-maps arc simple, and are relevant only to that part of the text with which they are associated; when the book is used for the purpose of examination preparation they will be found suitable for memorising. Genealogical tables and lists of rulers have been included for reference. Summaries have been appended for the use of candidates for examination. | en_US |
